What Was Life Really Like?

Northern Ireland descended further into violence — internment without trial was introduced, and the anger in nationalist communities boiled over. In the south, collections were taken up in churches for families displaced by violence. Ireland applied again for EEC membership and this time the prospects were better.

The Women's Liberation Movement was beginning to stir in Dublin — contraception, divorce, and equal rights were becoming topics of public debate that would have been unthinkable a decade earlier.
