What cookies and browser storage are
Cookies are small text files a website can store in your browser. Local storage is a similar way for a website to keep small bits of information on your device, without an expiry date built in the same way cookies have. We use them to remember your choices, like which country you've picked. We don't use them to find out your name or other personal details.

Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics to see how many people visit the site and which pages are popular. It's cookieless — it sets no cookies and uses no local storage, and it doesn't identify you individually or follow you across other websites. We don't run any advertising or tracking cookies of our own.
Advertising and consent (Mediavine Journey)
Mediavine is our advertising partner. Their “Journey” ad system runs the adverts you see on this site, and shows its own consent banner to UK/EU visitors — built on the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) and powered by consentmanager.net — with “Accept all”, “Reject all” and a “Settings” option in between. Before you make a choice, the only cookies set on our site are the consent tool's own, which record that choice once made.
If you choose “Reject all”, you'll still see ads, but they should not be personalised to you. Mediavine works with a number of advertising partners, and the specific ones active for you, along with what each sets, are listed within the consent tool itself — open “Update Privacy Settings” in the footer to see them or change your choice at any time. We don't maintain our own list of their cookies here, and we don't run any accept/reject logic of our own for advertising — Mediavine's consent tool handles that.

Grow by Mediavine
Grow is a Mediavine feature that lets readers save content they like and helps us understand how the site is used. It's covered by the same consent banner as our other advertising — the cookies and storage in the table above are only set by Grow once you've consented via Mediavine's banner, which loads Grow directly; we no longer load or gate it ourselves. Payments
When you buy a newspaper, you're taken to Stripe's secure checkout page, which is run by Stripe on its own website and may set its own cookies under Stripe's cookie policy.
