What Was Life Really Like?
India went to war with Pakistan over Kashmir in September. Families huddled around radios, listening for news. The war was short — barely three weeks — but it left deep marks.
Shastri's rallying cry of 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan' (Long live the soldier, long live the farmer) became a national slogan. The film Waqt explored fate and family in ways that felt suddenly very resonant. Peace was signed in Tashkent in January 1966, and then Shastri died the very same night — shocking the country all over again.
