Born in 2004

EU enlargement brought workers from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and other new member states to Ireland in large numbers. Ireland was one of only three countries that immediately allowed workers from the new member states. The impact was enormous — Eastern European workers filled jobs in construction, hospitality, and agriculture that Ireland couldn't fill domestically.

Irish cities became noticeably more diverse, more cosmopolitan, and more interesting. The country was changing shape again.
